Bernard's murder was linked to another teacher, history and geography teacher Samuel Paty, who was beheaded near Yvelines' school on October 16, 2020, after showing students a caricature of Muhammad during a lesson on freedom of expression. This happened three years after his murder.

In his commemorative speech, Attal said schools are the “best weapon” to fight terrorists.
