Shamoun, NJ – Former long-time Lenape Regional High School District (LRHSD) Board of Education member Ted Shinske recently passed away. He represented Shammon Township on the Board of Trustees from April 1997 until December 2018, where he contributed to many important initiatives, including the groundbreaking effort to build Seneca High School.
In his more than 21 years of service, Mr. Shinsuke has helped foster a professional and collaborative atmosphere that prepares all students in the Lenape District for success. He served as Board Chair from May 2011 until December 2013, where he participated in several important initiatives, including leading successful negotiations with the Lenape District's collective bargaining unit.
“Ted was an inspiration to others in his dedication to the Board of Education and to all students in the Lenape District. His dedication to making the Lenape District great was recognized by the students he attended. It was visible at every board meeting and every board committee meeting,” said school board member David Stowe, who served as school board vice president during Shinsuke’s tenure as board president. Stated.
Mr. Shinsuke has demonstrated the patience, resilience, and ability to adapt to the different leadership styles of each superintendent throughout his tenure on the board, starting with Dr. Daniel Hicks, Mrs. Emily Capella, and continuing to the current Superintendent, Dr. Carroll. Mr. Shinsuke served as Board Chair during my first year as Superintendent and provided me with incredible LRHSD history and support. He was a quiet, smart, generous and kind gentleman who had a gift for seeing the big picture and helping others see it,” said LRHSD Principal Dr. Carol Birnbohm.
Dr. Robert Bende, another longtime school board member, will remember Mr. Shinsuke fondly. Dr. Bende said, “I have known Ted since we were on the board together, so I will miss him both as a close friend and as a colleague on the board.” I did.
Mr. Shinsuke has had a long career as an entrepreneur, owning and operating a series of hair styling businesses in the area and an automotive transmission business in Vineland, N.J., and in 1994 opened The Rocks Shop in Lake Pine, N.J. I retired when I sold it. This reflects his love of learning as he attended trade school and took other courses to ensure success in each of his business endeavors. He also took lessons to obtain a private pilot's license so that he could pursue flying as a hobby in the late 60s and early 70s.
Mr. Shinsuke graduated from Rancocas Valley Regional High School and was inducted into the school's baseball athletic hall of fame. He is left with his wife Bette. his sons, John and Jim; and five grandchildren.
