Five Brandywine staff members nominated for Excellence in Teaching Award

Niles Charter Township — Five local school employees were recognized for their support and care for students.
Brandywine Community Schools announced Friday that five district employees have been nominated for the Parent Advisory Committee Excellence in Teaching Award. This award recognizes individuals who work with students with disabilities and demonstrate exceptional support and consideration.
There are a total of 15 candidates across the Berrien County School District, and one-third of the candidates are from Brandywine. The candidates are: Lynn Mickiewicz, special education teacher at Brandywine Elementary School. Ashley Reed, Merritt Elementary School Developmental Kindergarten Teacher. Jess Broda, Brandywine Middle/High School Special Education Assistant; Adam Rourke, Brandywine Middle/High School special education teacher. and Beth Hannon, special education assistant at Merritt Elementary School.
“The fact that Brandywine has one-third of our candidates is a great opportunity for our staff to engage and educate all of our students,” said Elise Sorensen, Director of Adult, Alternative, and Special Education at Brandywine Community Schools. It speaks to their commitment to empowering and empowering people.”
The Parent Advisory Council is facilitated through Berrien RESA and is comprised of parents whose children receive special education services throughout the county. PAC's goal is to help parents learn about the special education system and feel more confident about their child's school experience. The nomination process involves a parent committee reviewing letters and nomination forms submitted to countywide staff and anonymously selecting candidates without regard to school district.
“I am so honored to have been nominated. It’s such a humbling feeling to be recognized just for doing my job. But I’m not alone in this. Without my team of colleagues, I They are not my current teachers. They are my extra eyes, ears, hands, and support. This nomination is for them as well,” said Ashley Reed, developmental preschool teacher and award nominee. Ta.
