One couple kept their $40,000 housing budget intact after building a clever DIY tiny home with luxury amenities.
In a YouTube video, a tiny house owner couple explained how they created their dream home with a small footprint.
Coleman and Shelby detailed the construction of their home in a video for small home builders (@FloatingOrbProductions).
The couple took advantage of several savings options, so the 420-square-foot home cost just $40,000 to build.
”[A] This is what a small house looks like [having] It has roots, but it's not complete. You can tear it up and transplant it if you want,” Shelby said.
Shelby and Coleman said they used to live in a small house.
Their current home stands on a 10-foot by 20-foot trailer. Shelby said a trailer permit costs about $20.
She also built an additional four-foot sleeping overhang on the roof of the house to make her “feel like a queen.”
The couple said they used snap-and-lock steel siding, cedar planks and custom bright yellow doors.
Large windows let plenty of sunlight into the small space.
However, the window will not open as the couple chose the cost-cutting option.
Getting a proper casement window will likely cost you an additional $4,000 to $5,000.
“We'd love to keep this window open, but we've decided not to because of funding,” Shelby explained.
“You can do better with it. [money]. ”
The home has a full kitchen, living room, second floor loft, bathroom, air conditioning, and laundry unit.
The interior is clad in a combination of dark wood accents and white clapboard walls.
Dozens of plants, colored pillows, and area rugs add visual interest to warm up your new home.
Skylights allow couples to enjoy time on the home's rooftop deck.
“It’s up in the trees, so it’s a very intimate moment,” Shelby said of the outdoor space.

small house turn up
As home prices continue to soar, thousands of tiny homes are being sold online.
According to Forbes magazine, the median home price in the United States in September was $412,000.
Median prices are down compared to the past few quarters. However, the initial cost of purchasing a home remains high.
For the past few quarters, the Fed has used interest rates as a blunt instrument to rein in home price inflation.
While overall prices continue to become more affordable, financing a home at current interest rates can cost buyers hundreds of dollars a month.
Tiny homes have become a popular solution to rising costs.
Homes are usually cheaper to build. Their environmental impact is less than the median American household.
The cost and environmental benefits of tiny living are causing homeowners to rethink their housing plans.
For example, here's a college student who built a house for less than $30,000.
