You may already have these items in your home.
To create your own DIY solar eclipse viewer, you'll need:
1. Cardboard box: You can use a shoe box (like the one used in the instructional video) or an empty cereal box.
2. A piece of white paper that can cover one end of the box.
Now that you have everything you need, you can start creating your DIY solar eclipse viewer. (Tip – Use the video as a reference when creating your viewer.)
1. Cut two small holes on one side of the box.
2. Apply the tape to the foil (Tip – the foil should be measured to cover one of the holes you made in step 1).
3. Adhere the foil to the box and cover one of the holes you cut out.
4. Use a pencil or pen to make small holes in the foil.
5. Apply the tape to the white paper. Tape it to the opposite edge of the box, where the hole was cut out.
6. Attach the lid to the shoe box. If you're using a cereal box or cardboard box, you may want to seal the open ends with tape.
Your DIY solar eclipse viewer is now assembled and ready to use. This is how to use the viewer.
1. You'll want to turn your back to the sun and look through the hole without the foil.
2. Sunlight passes through the holes in the foil and reaches the back of the box, where the white paper is taped.
3. During a solar eclipse, you can safely watch the unfolding of events when the moon's shadow begins to pass in front of the sun.
