Pauline Ho, who graduates today with a doctorate from the College of Education, has been recognized by University Communications as one of the University of Wisconsin-Madison's Spring 2024 “Notable Alumni.”
“When she started her graduate work at UW-Madison, she had only $3,000 in her bank account,” Ho said. “English was her fourth language, and both of her parents had graduated from elementary school. We didn’t,” the campus story said.
“Given my starting point, this journey has definitely been difficult,” says Ho, who was born in Vietnam and settled in Los Angeles at age 12. Although her path was not an easy one, she earned a doctorate in educational psychology.
Mr. Ho recently received an award from the Provost's Office for his mentoring of undergraduate students in research, academic and creative endeavors. Her supervisor, B. Bradford Brown, a professor in the Department of Educational Psychology, said she has helped undergraduate researchers acquire qualitative research skills “through a well-organized training program.” talk. Many appear to be first-generation college students or members of underrepresented groups. ”
One student she mentored said, “Thanks to her high standards, expectations, and support for students, I was able to express myself, pursue my ambitions, and achieve my career goals as a psychologist who studies human development.” “I gained the confidence to do so.”
