Shared by craft sensation Chelsea Zepherina to her 569,000 Instagram followers, this hack sees Chelsea print different citrus fruits onto plain tea towels, transforming them into colorful, Mediterranean-inspired kitchen essentials.
This hack (which has received over 578,000 likes so far) seems super easy to pull off and all you need is a few lemons and limes, acrylic paint, fabric paint, and of course, a dish towel.
Essentially, you dip the base of a lemon or lime into your favourite colour paint and then print it onto a tea towel, resulting in a beautifully handcrafted and colourful creation.
It's really that easy. Chelsea herself explains the steps in her post: [your] Cut lemons and limes in half or quarters and squeeze out any excess juice.
“Next, use a paring knife to slice the lemon, leaving only the skin (this is the outline you'll see when you press the fruit into fabric!),” she continues, “Mix one part acrylic paint with one part fabric medium (you can also just use fabric paint) and gently press the fruit into the paint.”
After that, all you have to do is press the fruit onto the fabric in any pattern you like and leave it to dry for at least six hours.
Speaking exclusively Country lifeChelsea also shared her biggest tip for getting great results: “I recommend testing your stamp on a paper towel before applying it directly to the fabric. Every stamp you make is different and unique – some may not turn out exactly as you expected, but there's beauty in the imperfections!”
In the comments section, she responded directly to one follower who had questioned the staying power of the tea towel's citrus print, allaying fears that the paint would wash off in the washing machine.
She explained: “I mixed the acrylic paint with a fabric medium fixative, so once they dry they are machine washable.”
