WASHINGTON – A driver was killed when a vehicle crashed into the White House gates Saturday night, but law enforcement officials said the fatal crash was being investigated “as a traffic accident only” and there was no threat to the presidential palace. Announced.
The U.S. Secret Service said the male driver, whose identity was not immediately known, was found dead inside the vehicle after the crash at the perimeter gate of the White House complex just before 10:30 p.m. Ta.
The vehicle crashed into a security fence at the intersection of 15th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW, the Washington Metropolitan Police Department said.
“At this time, this incident is being investigated solely as a traffic accident by the Metropolitan Police's Major Accident Investigation Unit,” Metro Police said in a statement posted on social media.
The Secret Service said security protocols were in place but there was no threat to the White House.
The Secret Service will continue to investigate the matter, while turning over the portion of the investigation into the fatal crash to the Metropolitan Police Department, the agency said.
