DC Film Girl reviews trends in theaters
Thanks Darencia, check out the latest in theaters and streaming this weekend. And this morning, we're joined by film critic Lauren Veneziani. Hey, you're very busy. very busy. As you know, Jen is always watching all the good movies and series. But yes, first Abigail. Abigail is the latest horror movie to hit theaters this weekend, and it's about a group of criminals trapped in a house with a vampire ballerina. I spoke with the film's title star, Alicia Weir. And she wanted to know her favorite vampire story. This is a short clip of Alicia's interview with Abigail. I think she knows something. everyone. Oh, now? Ballerina Vampire I love that this is a self-aware vampire movie. True Blood is mentioned. I'm mentioning Twilight, her two of my favorite vampire stories. I'm curious, have you ever seen the Twilight movies, or do you have a particular favorite vampire supernatural story? Now, into Abigail, I haven't seen any. I mean, I watched Bram Vampire Diaries and that was my favorite series. Oh my god, I'm hooked. Yeah. me too. And I love that series. That was before Abigail. That's the only vampire movie I've seen. I mean, it was clearly different. And, you know, Abigail snarls and snarls. I watch a lot of videos and her YouTube videos. I searched a lot of vampire videos and tried to put them all together. An idea of what Abigail's vampire side and personality would be like. But up until then, I had only watched “The Vampire Diaries.'' Ali. She's so cute! Alicia is the cutest. she is 15 years old. I think she looks very young. She is excellent in her role. she is terrifying Abigail is very fond of camping. It's self-awareness and it's a lot of fun. It's not your typical horror movie. We have a great cast. Melissa Barrera, Kathryn Newton, Dan Stevens, it's a great time. It's by the same directorial team that made the last two Scream movies, which I personally loved. Both are Scream movies. Hmm, my main criticism is that it's a little predictable for a horror movie and I would have liked a little more scares, but Alicia is definitely the best part. It's so much fun to watch it in the theater with an audience. I give Abigail her 3 out of 5 points. It's a solid horror movie. That's more on Campia's side. Yes, I like that. It doesn't try to pretend to be anything other than accurate. Ballerina vampires are very self-aware. Okay. And I could see under the bridge. The first two episodes of Her were released on Hulu. yes. This is a new series on Hulu. As you said, the first two episodes are out. It is based on a true story about the disappearance and murder of a teenage girl, starring Riley Keogh and Lily Gladstone. Riley plays a novelist who returns to his hometown and befriends some girl friends as inspiration for a new book. And Lily Gladstone plays a cop trying to solve a murder. I spoke to Riley and Lily, two of my favorite actors on the show today, about this series. This series is set in his 90s. It's full of the 90's nostalgia that I loved so much. This is a clip of Riley and Lily's interview in “Under the Bridge.” Congratulations on the series. I truly think this is one of the best series this year. I watched all 8 episodes and the two were really great. Well, thank you Aurora Records, and we need a Daisy Jones and Sixx live concert. it needs to happen. Lily and I grew up in his '90s, so we loved all that '90s nostalgia and aesthetics. Much of the series takes place in youth homes, where posters can be seen. One of his is Leonardo in his basketball diary and DiCaprio in his. , I think so, I think so. So I'm curious, what did you have posted on your bedroom wall when you were a child? Riley, what did you have? Well, that's a very good question. What did you do, Hansen? oh my god. Hansen. wherever. Like crazy jewelry, oh I love it too. I think there was a Spice Girls poster in 1997. What a spice. What am I thinking? Oh my God, Spice Girls Spice, I was baby, baby, I knew it. 40 years old, you know what that sucks. Of course, but I feel like I've been turned into a baby. But essentially, I'm more of a ginger person. oh. But it's a lot of fun. yes. My full cast interviews are on my YouTube DCC FILM GIRLS DOT COM. I watched all 8 episodes of the series within 2 days. I thought it was really great and I kept guessing. Not only are Riley and Lily great, but the supporting actors playing the teenagers are just as great, which is sometimes the case in series like this. Jen, I'm only interested in specific stories, but I was really interested in the story as a whole. The first two episodes of his are currently available on Hulu, with new episodes released weekly. It's a heartbreaking story, but very well done. This is an impressive watch. Yes, I give Under the Bridge four and a half stars out of five. Honestly, this is one of the better series I've seen so far this year. I really liked it because I want a series that I just want to devour the whole thing. It's that I like to binge drink and binge. I don't like being spaced out a little bit. Okay. Ministry of Ungentlemanly War. yes. The title is correct. This is the longest title ever. But this is Guy Ritchie's new action movie, based on the true story of Winston Churchill and his army who hired a group of skilled soldiers to attack German troops behind enemy lines in World War II. Everyone in this cast is incredibly charming. Henry Cavill, Alan Ritchson Hero Fiennes-Tiffin One of my favorites Henry Golding, Isaac Gonzalez I love Ritchie's movies and the opening scene definitely sets the fun tone for the movie. thought. One of the best opening scenes of any movie I've seen this year. It's a lot of fun when the action scenes really start moving. It's very wild and very over the top in the best sense of the word. I think it slows down a bit in the middle, but the opening and ending scenes are great and Alan Ritchson as Reacher is probably my favorite role. He plays a Swedish soldier with a bow and arrow. His character is cheerful, relentless, and relentless. Between him and Henry Cavill, I was okay with it, so I give The Ministry of Ungentlemanly War three and a half stars out of five. It's so much fun to see it in the theater. If you interview Henry Cavill, we have to talk, but I'm not with you. All I know is that it only happened once. That happened in Washington DC many years ago, and if it happens again, I'll let you know. But over the next two weeks, I'll be interviewing Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt about their movie The Fall Guy. This movie was really great. He also appears in Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine's new film, “The Idea of You.” I'm so excited to share these interviews with you. Yes, I can't wait to meet them. Lauren, thank you so much for joining us. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Also. Okay. See you later.
