PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Shadow boxes are see-through displays perfect for showing off sentimental memorabilia.
DIY expert Shannon Quimby joined AM Extra to show us how easy it is to make your own DIYs.

Supplies:
8' 1×3 board
craft board
All-purpose adhesive
wood glue
utility knife
glue gun and glue stick
small souvenirs
modge podge
1 inch foam paint brush
tape measure
pencil
picture frame
miter saw
nail gun and 1 inch brad
option.paints and paintbrushes
Old newspaper or patterned craft paper
Phillips screwdriver
2 serrated hangers
hammer
Method:
- Remove hardware and lining from picture frame
- Glue the glass panel to the frame using all-purpose adhesive.
- Measure the opening in the frame and cut 4 pieces using a 1×3 on your miter saw.
Board to form a box around the back opening of the frame - Apply wood glue along the edge of the short board and butt it against the long board.
Make the board at a 90 degree angle - Hammer the nail into place with a nail gun
- Repeat steps 4 and 5 to complete the box
- Optional: Paint the box and let dry.
- Measure the outside edge of the box and use a utility knife to cut the craft to fit that outside edge.
measured value - Tear up random pieces of newspaper or craft paper and use a foam brush and modge.
Fill one side of the craft board with paper and stick it on. - Once the modge podge is dry, apply a top coat all over and let it dry.
- Using a nail gun, nail the craft board with the paper side facing the back of the box.
opening the box - Measure and mark equal distances along one side of the front of the desired box.
Locate the two hinges and secure the hinges to the box with screws. - Align the back of the picture frame with the hinge of the box,
Screw the frame into place.Shadow box can now be opened and closed - Attach two serrated hangers to the top of the back of the box, evenly spaced apart.
hang it on the wall - Arrange the memorabilia inside the box and attach with hot glue
