April 5, 2024 Sudan/Kenya (International Christian Concern) – Pastor Ibrahim, an Anglican priest, devoted husband and father of two, told International Christian Concern (ICC) how he fled persecution in Sudan.
After being ordained in the Sudanese Anglican Church, Ibrahim served faithfully in Wad Madani State. Everything changed in 2011 when Sudan's then-President Omar al-Bashir declared the country an Islamic state, leading to persecution of Christians.
Authorities seized church property, deported foreign missionaries, and detained pastors who opposed the repression. Pastor Ibrahim, who led many Muslims to Christ, felt he was in danger and knew he could be arrested. He decided to flee the country.
Ibrahim, who now lives in Kenya, spoke to the ICC about the challenges and changes he has faced in his new life. Despite the difficulties, he continues his passionate ministry within the Kakuma Refugee Camp. The pastor reflected on his escape from Sudan and spoke about the education of his two children, Amira and Okot, who are currently in fifth and first grade, respectively.
“In 2011, I managed to enter Kenya at the border under the pretext of getting an education, but then conflict broke out in my home country,” he said. “Since then, I have become actively involved in the missionary work in Kakuma Refugee Camp. I first encountered ICC through a contact several years ago. Their consistent support and support has been invaluable to me and many others during a difficult time.”
Amira also thanked the ICC for its support in a personal letter.
“Hello in the name of Jesus Christ.
I am writing this letter to express my heartfelt gratitude to ICC for your continued support last year and for your continued support this year. Thanks to your support last year, I was able to concentrate on my studies without interruption. We hope for similar success this year. Without your intervention, I may not have been able to pursue my education. During this one year of his life, ICC provided everything I needed. Food, clothing, education, and a safe place to live. I am truly grateful to both God and ICC.
Looking to the future, after I finish my studies, I would like to repay the money by helping people in need. I pray that God gives me the ability to realize all my dreams so that I can advocate for the poor and the voiceless. I would also like to thank IICC for recognizing my academic efforts and for his prayers and words of encouragement. I sincerely hope that ICC continues to support both me and my brother (until we complete our education). May God richly bless the ICC for its generosity and compassion for us and those in need. Thank you again for your continued support. ”
Ibrahim's entire family happily expressed their gratitude to ICC for covering their children's school-related needs. The pastor's wife was filled with gratitude and a constant smile broke out on her face.
