BENGALURU: A man and his girlfriend who duped a series of jewelers by showing them fake payment screens for purchased gold ornaments have been arrested by the Byadarahalli police. Those arrested were Nandan (40) from Devanahalli and his girlfriend Kalpita (35) from Rajarajeshwarinagar. The two visited a jewelry store posing as potential customers. However, instead of making genuine payments, they utilized fake NEFT payment screenshots generated through an application called 'Prank Payments' to fool unsuspecting jewelers. They intended to use the money for a luxurious lifestyle. The scam came to light on March 4 when one of the victim jewelers, Mr. Gewarchand, owner of Parameshwara Bankers and Jewelers on Magadi Road, was defrauded of Rs 230,000. . Her vehicle registration number was stolen and Nandan was subsequently arrested. Police investigations revealed that the couple had been using the same scam to scam multiple jewelers in recent months. In the latest escape, he visited Kamla Jewelers near Bagaragunte on March 12 and fled with ornaments worth Rs 340,000 after showing a fake NEFT payment confirmation to the owner Mahendra S.
