TUCSON, Ariz. (KGUN) — In a DIY style, students from Robbins Kindergarten through 8th grade school helped paint a mural in the library.
“The PTO, the principal here, and I were all talking about ways to bring art into the school and brighten up the space a little bit,” said PTO President Kristen Mustovich.
Four classes have been participating every day since last Thursday. Now, every Robbins student has their name on the wall.
“The kids are excited,” Principal Chandra Thomas said with a twinkle in her eye. “First of all, who can paint a school? Who can paint the inside walls of a building without damaging anything?”
The main message of the mural is “Let's give wings to our dreams.”
“We started with simple, low-key pieces for little kids, but as we moved up the walls, we got the kids involved and got a little more detailed,” explained artist Abby Nater. “It was really fun. They really got to take ownership of it.”
Seventh grader Elise Wiley said she thinks it will make the experience of students walking the hallways better.
“I think it was fun. I think it would be really cool to have something like a big, beautiful mural in the school,” she said.
“I think it's like a big part of who we are,” said Nathaniel Valenzuela, another seventh grader. “We're like the representatives of the school.”
