The Caregiver Support Program (CSP) and Home-Based Primary Care (HBPC) provide educational activities for caregivers of veterans, and 20 caregivers participated in the activity titled “Caregiver Communication with Patients with Dementia.” participated.
The CDC defines dementia as a general term that refers to impairments in memory, thinking, and decision-making abilities that interfere with activities of daily living. Alzheimer's disease is the most common type of dementia. Dementia primarily occurs in older people, but is not part of normal aging. Caregivers provide personalized care, social interaction, and emotional support to help people with dementia maintain a higher quality of life. In FY23, VACHS registered 7,236 dementia patients receiving treatment between primary care clinics and mental health clinics based on VSSC reports.
This initiative promotes collaborative efforts among veterans programs to build communities where seniors of all ages can stay active, stay healthy, and receive care with dignity and enjoyment.Age-Friendly Health We work with care systems.
