Tonight marks the first day of his 'From The Studio To The Stage' tour at Kentish Town's O2 Forum, and he certainly delivers on that promise. The stage is decked out in black and white checkerboard, and the setup itself feels like it reflects the creative corner of a retro recording studio, akin to The Ed Sullivan Show. Above the band's head, a sign that reads “Recording: Studio in Use” flashes at regular intervals, completing the cosplay and adding a cleverly intimate backdrop to the whole, a nod to his remarkable daily work. He added a cheeky wink.
Doubling as one of the first headline shows in support of their newly released self-titled fourth album, it's no surprise that the set is dominated by those tracks, and the live setting is reminiscent of the record. amplifies some of the more subtle details of the first three tracks. “I Am Right on Time,” “Modern Girl,” and “Jesus Is Dead.” But it was when their old songs got airplay that the legions of devoted fans, and Jack himself, really came to life, and the frontman threw himself off the ground, stood on a piano stool, and performed various songs. They ran around the stage to jam with the music. The band members as the surrounding atmosphere brightens.
