Is there anyone who inspires you as a performer on stage?
Talulah: It was definitely when we were growing up. I remember seeing Starcrawler and Arrow on my birthday and the front woman was just like, “Wow.” On stage, I can be who I am, but another part of me comes out, I can do whatever I want, and I get a weird confidence that I don't really have.
roller: Now that I've played more gigs, I've gained more confidence. I'm still nervous, but I'm getting used to it. Even a year ago, if you had seen us, we would have been so embarrassed.
Talulah: But it would be terrifying to stand on stage without Laura and Alfie. When I was on tour with Royal Blood, I had to play songs with them on the guitar every night and it was very scary. Absolutely scary. Having the people who are always on stage with you gives you confidence.
Joe: I agree with that too. I think it's an opportunity to do things that you can't do in public, or you'll get arrested. It's a chance to get a little crazy. Once you cross the line of nerves, you better give it your all.
Did you have any rock and roll injuries along the way?
Talulah: I get injured all the time, but it's not on stage. I'm just a very clumsy person. I have a lot of broken toes and cuts…
Are tour bus etiquette rules established for HotWax buses and Big Special buses?
Talulah: Alfie's wish!
roller: Talulah and I are not allowed to sit in the front, we have to sit in the back. We spill everything.
Talulah: We are terrible. I don't feel well…we're just a bit sloppy…
roller: We don't eat sloppily, we just drop things and talk nonsense. We travel in a van and all our luggage is loaded in the back row. And we find a pot of hummus that has been there the entire tour.
Joe: Our van is just us vying for a window seat to smoke. They have a lot of sandwiches and a lot of great value meals. We try to rotate the albums so everyone can participate. We've been listening to a lot of post-trad Irish stuff like Lankum and Lisa O'Neill.
roller: We listen to the bands in the lineup that we play, so we know what they're like.
