March 30 (UPI) — AT&T announced Saturday that it is investigating a security breach after the data of about 8 million current and 65 million former customers was leaked on the dark web.
The company said in a statement that the breach occurred about two weeks ago and included personal information such as social security numbers. It is not yet clear whether the compromised data came from AT&T or its vendor.

AT&T said it has launched a “robust investigation with the assistance of internal and external cybersecurity experts.”
The data set appears to date back to 2019 or earlier and affects approximately 7.6 million current customers and 65.4 million former customers, the company said.
The company said it has not yet found evidence of unauthorized access to its systems and that its operations have not been affected so far.
AT&T said it is contacting affected customers and resetting their passcodes. We also offer free credit monitoring through Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion.
