Alongside DIY's Now + Next mini tour (she's supporting HotWax on several dates this week), Asia has given us a new single. And with its earworm bassline and hedonistic late-night vibe, “party's over” is perfect for road testing in a live setting.
The song, co-produced by Asia and Grammy winner John Hill, finds her mourning a lost connection, à la Sliding Doors. She explains the concept as follows: “It is seeing someone in a crowd, and all your fantasies and intentions and desires are directed towards that person from the moment you see them. There is an instant attraction, but a helplessness and lack of inaccessibility. they.”
She continues: “So, in your head, you're playing the confident you who walks up to them. And by the end of the party, you get home and realize you didn't have that person's number.” Because they didn't realize or ask, they will forever be just ghosts, memories in their heads, and thoughts of what could have been.”
