Lip products come and go like pancakes.
I grew up always carrying lip balm in my bag. When I was younger, every lipstick I could think of had every Smacker flavor. I even had chopsticks shaped like the original flavors. I've followed all the trends over the years, from Carmex to EOS Egg to Burts Bees to Glossier's Balm Dotcom.
One of this year's biggest beauty trends is glossy lips. This is the perfect lipstick to pair with the glowing natural makeup look that also gets rave reviews. The top three running the show are Laniege's Lip Glowy Balm, Rhode's Peptide Lip Treatment, and Summer Friday's Lip Butter Balm.
Each brand has its own formula. Lanige's Lip Glowy Balm has a thick consistency that coats your lips while making them look beautiful and glossy. I have only used Lanige lip masks so far and I really liked them. The lip mask version comes in a small pot and you have to stick your finger into the pot to remove the product. It comes with a cute spatula, but it's inconvenient to grasp. Being a sleep mask, the formula is made with a thick consistency. I keep my lip mask on my bedside table and apply it to my lips every night before bed. Shining lip balms come in a variety of flavors with very bright shades. The flavors in this line are more focused on scent and packaging than lip color. The lip balm comes in 6 different flavors.
Road Peptide Lip Treatment is a product from Hailey Bieber's fairly new skincare brand. The lip treatment comes in four different shades and flavors. This is my roommate's favorite. She says that compared to Summer Friday, the load is much thicker and lasts longer throughout the day. I think her lips look like juicy glazed donuts. What concerns me the most is that there have been reports of problems while using the lip treatment. Some users reported that a chemical reaction occurred after wearing the lip treatment and going out in the sun, leaving their lips rougher than when they first started using the product, and shared it on TikTok.
On Fridays in the summer, they bring cake. It has the most flavor and color of the three. Unfortunately, it's also the most expensive at $24 compared to Laniege's $19 and Rhode's $16. It also provides the best color payoff for a lip balm. I have the cherry flavor and I really love it. My lips are a lot redder than my friends, so it's not my everyday lipstick. It's so delicious that you'll want to eat it every time you apply it to your lips. It provides maximum moisture to your lips and reminds you of the nostalgic taste you had as a child.
I love it, but it's way too exaggerated. I don't think it's worth $24. It's a great lip product with great flavors and colors, but Aquaphor does the trick.
