The Ohio State Buckeyes currently hold the No. 1 recruiting class in the nation, according to On3 Team Recruiting Rankings.
And that class may get better soon.
St. Joseph's (Philadelphia, Pa.) four-star running back Isaiah West (who recently resumed recruiting) is likely to commit to the Buckeyes, according to On3 national recruiting analyst Steve Wiltfong. It is said that there is.
The news came shortly after West visited Columbus over the weekend, prompting Wiltfong to enter West into the Ohio State recruiting prediction machine.
“It was amazing,” West told On3 about his visit to Columbus. “We all had a great time.”
West is also scheduled to make an official visit to Columbus from June 14-16, followed by a trip to Kentucky the weekend before that.
And for West, Ohio State's tradition and excellence may determine his final decision.
“First and foremost, it's an Ohio State tradition,” West said. “You can see why they are one of the best teams in college football. They constantly strive for excellence. There are winners and losers and they are proud of it. There's a brotherly love. It really reminded me of that place I'm in now. ”
West believes he is a perfect fit for Ohio State's new running backs coach Carlos Loughlin and new defensive coordinator Chip Kelly.
“I think Coach Lock is a great coach,” West said. “With a new offensive coordinator, coach Chip Kelly is a wizard when it comes to offensive schemes. I'm excited and I think I'll adapt well to it.”
As it stands, 247Sports is the only recruiting outlet that has West as a four-star recruit, ranked No. 205 nationally, No. 11 running back and No. 6 player in the state of Pennsylvania. On3, ESPN and Rivals.com all list West as a three-star recruit.
Last year as a junior, West led St. Joseph's to the 6A state title with 861 yards from scrimmage and 10 touchdowns.
