Ahead of the busy summer season, new data from Airbnb* reveals how vacationers are seeking more authentic experiences. Airbnb's data highlights a trend toward more authentic travel this year, highlighting a trend toward vacation experiences closer to local life.
One in five people (twenty two%) Almost two-thirds of guests said they travel with Airbnb because they want to experience the local area, and nearly two-thirds of guests completed a similar survey (64%) said traveling with Airbnb provides a closer connection to the culture than staying in a hotel.there was 72% Increase in people booking private rooms from 2021 to 20231demonstrating a growing desire for affordable travel that also immerses you in local culture.
If you want to find hidden gems or discover modern culture, you can rely on local hosts. They know far more about their area and the best things to see and do than any traveler could dream of finding online. Last year, nearly half of the guests were (48%) mentioned that they visited a place recommended by the host but might not have known about it otherwise.
Airbnb Superhost Lucy says: “Sharing everything there is to see and do locally is one of the things I love most about being a host. I love sharing my local pubs, and as a foodie I love sharing all the best local food spots I know.”
“Airbnb offers a wealth of options to get away from the hustle and bustle and stay in the heart of the local community. Our hosts are the ultimate local travel guides, with knowledge you wouldn't know unless you've lived in the area long enough. Offering lesser-known recommendations: By choosing local accommodations outside of tourist destinations and trying lesser-known restaurants, shops and cafes, guests are exposed to the hands of local people, businesses and communities. You will be giving money back to the people and helping them thrive.”
