interview We know Google's search results are suffering from the proliferation of AI garbage, but the web giant's attempts to curb the rise in machine-generated drivel aren't helping much.
It's so bad that John Gillum, founder and CEO of AI content discovery platform Originality.ai, said Google is losing the battle against all spammy and deceptive search engine results content. You can read the full interview with John below.
“What is clear at this point is that no one is spamming Google. [that’s] “We're not using AI to do it,” Gillum said. register. “While not all AI content is spam, we currently believe that all spam is AI content.”
Gillum's team produces monthly reports to track how well AI-generated content appears in Google's web search results. As of last month, it was claimed that about 10% of Google's search results showed AI content, which led Google to promise to take down a number of his websites that were pushing such garbage in their entirety. That's for later.
“Google took these manual actions to win the battle, but it still appears to be struggling with its algorithms being overtaken by AI content,” Gillum said.
As AI content proliferates, there are also concerns that AI could ingest other AI-generated materials and eventually regurgitate other low-quality synthetic data, leading to situations where models break down. Gillum said his AI content recognition technology, which is used to scan datasets of machine-generated information, is helpful but not a complete solution.
“While this is a step toward mitigating data set corruption, I don't think it will completely solve the problem,” Gillum said. Click play above to hear more of what he had to say. ®
