A woman has shared her hack for getting your four-legged friends the cheapest and most comfortable dog bed available.
In a video posted to TikTok under the handle b_heather90, the owner of five dogs details the solution he came up with to ensure they get the best rest possible.
Dogs need lots of sleep. said Amy Stone, clinical associate professor at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine. newsweek“Dogs should sleep an average of 10 to 14 hours during the day.”
This is significantly more than the 7 to 9 hours that most of our fellow humans spend at night. Dogs often prefer to nap throughout the day. “Dogs listen to their bodies more than humans,” Stone says. “When signals to the brain tell them to sleep, they sleep.”
Some dogs can sleep apart for more than half the day, so it's important to give them the perfect space to sleep.
For some, this may mean splurging on a particularly high-end dog bed. However, there is another way, as the video posted by b_heather90 shows.
In the video, captioned “DIY dog bed,” the woman tells viewers that she would rather spend more money on a dog bed that is likely to “tear and tear” and only last “a few months.” The owner said it was better to go to the hospital. Go to the “baby corner” and buy a mattress from there.
She said the mattress would probably not only be cheaper, but would also have a protective cover on top of it. This means it's “easy to wipe clean” and when you attach the sheet, it becomes a “more durable” dog bed.
The video has been viewed more than 1.8 million times, with viewers sharing their thoughts on dog owners' clever workarounds in the comments section.
One person wrote: “This is so amazing. I'm embarrassed I didn't think of it.” Another commented: “The amount of money spent on a dog bed for a baby is ridiculous… this should be done ASAP.”
Some were skeptical and even said they had already tried it with little success. “My dog hates the crib! What a waste of money,” one person wrote.
Another said, “Same thing. My dog hated the crib and tore it up the next day.” A third added: “My dog was scared of the noise the plastic made and wouldn't lie on it.”
Others have already done it with great success.
“I actually use a crib mattress inside my dog’s crate,” one person said. Another said, “No one understands that our pets are giant toddlers and should be treated like toddlers. All my minions have toddler beds ” he wrote.
Some users said they found ways to improve on the TikToker's idea.
“Just a quick tip! But be sure to use a quilted waterproof cover for extra protection. Otherwise, over time, your nails will tear through the mattress's plastic cover. This will prevent your nails from hitting the mattress. ” one person said.
Another commented: “I went with a twin mattress…fitted sheet that's easy to clean. I have a 200 pound Great Dane and he loves it!”
