A video of the devastating sandstorm that hit the city of Mumbai on May 13 has been shared on social media. Time-lapse footage taken at the airport shows the sky shrouded in dark gray sheets.
“13.05.24 Sandstorm in Mumbai,” user X wrote while sharing the video. As the clip opens, multiple aircraft are shown stationary on the runway, with several ground staff moving around. In an instant, the entire area was engulfed in dust, blocking visibility. As the clip progresses, the sky gradually begins to regain clarity.
During the incident, operations at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport were temporarily suspended. Due to the bad weather, subway and train services between several stations were also suspended.

The first rains of the season fell in Mumbai on May 13, leaving behind a massive sandstorm. Amidst the weather disaster, a horrifying incident occurred when a 70-metre-high billboard at Ghatkopar in Mumbai crashed during a thunderstorm. Illegal hoardings fell into a petrol pump, killing nearly 14 people and injuring 74 others.
According to the BMC, no permission had been obtained to install the signboard. Following the incident, the Mumbai Police has registered a case against the owner Bhavesh Bhide and others.
Chief Minister of Maharashtra Eknath Shinde expressed his gratitude as follows. INR$500,000 to the families of those killed and injured in the incident.

According to reports, IMD scientist Sushma Nar said that the Madhya-Maharashtra valley is responsible for the unusual sandstorm and rain.
