A mum with no DIY skills transformed a run-down three-bedroom house into her dream home in just two years. Her brilliant ideas have inspired thousands of people to start renovating their homes with her.
Lindsay Ginan and her partner, from Halewood, Liverpool, bought the three-bed house in April 2018 for £170,000. Even though she had never done any DIY before, she immediately started renovating her new home, reports Mirror Online.
In just two years, they've increased the value of their home by £110,000 and gained 162,000 Instagram followers. In 2020, her mother said: She said, “When I came to see the property, I saw the potential. I wanted to open everything up and renovate each bedroom to make it a family home.'' “We had never remodeled before and it was our first time, but we knew with the vision we had, we could make it more than just a three-bed semi.” she told the Liverpool Echo. “People might see this house on Instagram and think it's a £500,000 house, but it's not, it's just a three-bed house in Liverpool.”
Lindsay began sharing the changes in her home on Instagram, and soon more than 130,000 people were watching her journey. Currently, she has her 162,000 followers. “She went a little crazy. She went a little mental,” she said. “People follow us to see how we've done it, what we've done, and to get inspired. To help others renovate as well, I'm We've documented everything.
“A lot of people say, 'I didn't know how to remodel an old house,' so I just give a little bit of advice and stuff. I've hired people to do major renovations, but most I did it myself,” and I do all the decorations. ”
Her favorite part of the house is the “mini spa” style bathroom, followed by the cozy living room. She said: “Of course, expandability and open plan and bifold are the main features, but the bathroom is a big one for me because the bathroom and how we remodeled it… now it's like a little mini-spa. I love my bathroom. It's like my little sanctuary with the bath and the feel I get from it. ”
The entire house has been modernized, but one of the biggest changes is on the outside. The exterior of the Pebble Dash was changed to a bright white to match the window frames, and the front door matched the wooden interior. Inside there are glass balustrades, soft carpets and white tiles.
In the living room, the old fireplace and patterned wallpaper have been replaced with a modern electric fireplace. On the second floor, the wall between the bathroom and toilet was torn down to create a “sanctuary” for Lindsey.
The large open plan kitchen has bi-fold doors opening onto the garden, perfect for hosting guests. You can follow Lyndsey's home improvement account here.
