A Taiwanese man was hospitalized after attempting to circumcise himself using a DIY kit he bought online, Sin Chew Daily reported.
Urologist Dr Chen Zhongzuo posted on his social media account about a patient who came to his clinic with a swollen penis after attempting to circumcise himself with a kit purchased from Taobao.
The patient said the kit contained a mild anesthetic to be sprayed on the genitals, but that the procedure to remove the foreskin was painful.
After seven days, the pain became unbearable so the man decided to see a doctor.
Dr Chen said the man's self-circumcision led to a genital infection that required antibiotics and, if he had not sought medical attention, he would have needed surgery, he said.
Dr Chen strongly advised men not to circumcise themselves because of the high risk of things going wrong.
