Space telescope searches for neutron stars in the remains of famous supernova
Scientists have confirmed what happened to a star that exploded into a stunning supernova that is visible from Earth more than 30 years ago. It turned into a neutron star, one of the strangest objects in the universe. A study published Thursday in the journal Science shows how NASA's newest space telescope sliced through the dust around a 37-year-old cosmic explosion and uncovered significant evidence of a neutron star. Scientists have long thought that the supernova would create a black hole or a super-dense neutron star from which nothing could escape. But there was too much debris to see it until the Webb Telescope looked in the infrared.
