Former talk show host Wendy Williams has been diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia, her team announced in a statement Thursday.
She was diagnosed last year after undergoing several medical tests. Her team said the situation was “posing a significant disruption to Wendy's life”.
“Wendi would not have received confirmation of these diagnoses if it were not for the diligence of Wendy's current treatment team of choice and the extraordinary work of the experts at Weill Cornell Medical College. “Wendy was able to receive the medical care she needed,” Williams' team said in a news release.
Williams previously opened up about her battle with lymphedema and Graves' disease. In 2022, it was announced that her daytime talk show, The Wendy Williams Show, would be ending due to her continuing health issues.
Her team said the decision to share her latest health update was “difficult and made after careful consideration.” They said she was still able to “do a lot on her own” and that she was receiving treatment.
“Most importantly, she maintains her trademark sense of humor and is receiving the care she needs to ensure she is protected and her needs are met,” the release states. “She is grateful for the many kind thoughts and well wishes that have been received.”
