With spring just around the corner, it's time to make your house boat-shaped.
If you're doing some DIY work, you may need some strong tools.
But you can save space and cash by renting instead of buying.
Here's how: . .
good neighbor: Local WhatsApp groups foster a sense of community, and members are usually happy to lend a hand or something.
If you already have one set up, ask if anyone has the tools you need and if you can borrow them for a short period of time.
Also, consider organizing a group if one doesn't exist. You never know when it will come in handy.
Alternatively, most communities have local Facebook groups, and it's worth asking for help on these sites.
Library of things: Some municipalities have initiatives where residents can borrow any item, including tools and other items that they use only occasionally but don't have a place to store.
Library Of Things also tends to be reasonably priced.
For example, you can expect to pay around £6 per day to rent a drill on the listings I searched for.
Visit the library ofthings.co.uk.
Check with your local authority to find out where your local one operates.
Fatrama: Through fatllama.com, you can rent most things for money from someone nearby.
In addition to renting DIY supplies and tools, you can also rent sewing machines, electric scooters, and musical instruments.
The site features many properties in urban areas, so if you live in a rural area, you may have to travel further to get what you need.
A quick search for ladders in my local area turned up a ladder 30 minutes drive away that I could rent for just £5 a day.
barbecue: Home centers have a service where you can rent tools.
Although the cost is not very cheap, you can still save money for one-time use.
For example, a carpet cleaner that costs around £500 costs £69 to hire for a weekend.
