F1 Test 2024 Live Updates (Local Time):
Session time (local time): 1000-1400 [morning session]1500-1900 [afternoon session]
1259: Adrian Newey, not exactly in school uniform mode, leans over and has a conversation with Verstappen while holding his RB20 in the garage.
1255: Leclerc has occasionally wrestled with the SF-24. His fastest lap to date is 1:33.247. Meanwhile, Verstappen reduced his time to 1:32.548.
1241: There's not a lot going on in orbit right now. Verstappen, Leclerc, Alonso, Tsunoda and Ocon are pacing their cars.
1219: So what have we learned from our tests so far? Email your feedback to planetf1editor@planetsport.com and we'll post some of the best ones.
1214: This morning there were some familiar faces in different kits, including Rob Marshall who wore McLaren papaya rather than Red Bull blue.
1209: Alex Albon had an obstacle in the shape of Pierre Gasly in his sights as he locked up at Turn 10. The Williams man went off the circuit but was able to return with minimal disruption.
1207: Good morning/afternoon depending on where you are in the world. I'm reporting from rainy London, so I don't envy Bahrain's weather at all…
1200: We are halfway through a very calm and peaceful morning session. Sam Cooper takes over and guides you through your lunch break at 14:00 local time.
1157: Speaking of Albon. There was a problem with DRS and he had to return to the garage. That shouldn't keep him out of the game for too long.
1145: Reporter's observation on the ground: “While passing the apex of Turn 2 on the push lap, most of the cars looked very calm. One car that was not at all was the Williams, and Alex Albon absolutely had to fight the car in the corners.”
1138: Hello Max! He moved to the top of the timesheets with a time of 1:33.065, three tenths faster than Alonso's previous best. The RB20, while jerky at first, seems a little more docile now.
1135: Back on track, Fernando Alonso is leading the laps and is about to begin his latest stint. Even at 42 years old, he still looks as fresh and motivated as ever. It's incredible.
1130: Oh, and if you're wondering where Christian Horner is as Red Bull's internal investigation continues, he's in Bahrain overseeing Max Verstappen's first session of the season in the Red Bull garage. Business as usual for now.
1125: For Ocon, a small problem with the PU created another small gremlin to deal with. But it won't be long before he's back at full speed.
1119: If Esteban Ocon still needed to weed out the winter cobwebs, they'll be completely blown away right now. He did it all wrong in Turn 4, bumping through the gravel before safely getting back on track. The first nervous moment of the day!
1110: Here's an early look at the Red Bull RB20 in action, courtesy of trackside reporter Thomas Maher. please follow him If you haven’t already!
1105: There has been a change at the top of the timesheets, with Charles Leclerc displacing Fernando Alonso from the top spot. Let the hype train start! Of course I'm kidding.
1056: It was a very quiet start as the first hour of practice drew to a close, something that the drivers and teams will certainly be pleased with. So far, no drama or early stopping.
1036: Max Verstappen will have to contend with his RB20 on the hardest tire compound available. That and a very green track that hasn't been properly rubberized yet, so if you're hoping Red Bull has produced a Gremlin-like car, don't.
1030: Kevin Magnussen had to return to the pits earlier than planned due to a wobble in his aero rake. That's not seen often!
1025: Fernando Alonso clearly got his hands on Cheerios this morning (other cereals are available) and quickly jumped to the top of the timesheets with a time of 1:33.822.
1011: The great news came as Piastri was leaving the McLaren pits to start the morning program.
1005: Five minutes into the session and we're still waiting for the first appearance of the McLaren MCL38. The team has not disclosed the reason for the delay. Leclerc is a Ferrari P1.
1002: Teams and drivers will not sit idly by as Leclerc emerges from the Ferrari garage. His SF-24 sports spider webs on both sides, but the aerodynamic rake is nothing to worry about. Verstappen's RB20 has a standard shaped rake.
1000: Russell wasted no time in the day and a half he spent with the British rider waiting at the end of the pit lane for the test to begin. And off he went, followed by Alonso.
0955: 5 minutes left until the first car enters the course…
0946: There are a lot, and I mean a lot, of screens in place as each team completes their final preparations behind the screens, but there are some front wings in the pit lane and Haas has already removed the covers from its official car. There is.
0938: The first test session of the season starts in about 20 minutes, so while we wait a little longer, let's bring you today's driver lineups for each of the 10 teams.
Red Bull and Mercedes chose not to split driving duties on the opening day, which will be run by Max Verstappen and George Russell. For Ferrari, Charles Leclerc will start, followed by Carlos Sainz, for McLaren, Oscar Piastri and then Lando Norris will start, while for Aston Martin, Fernando Alonso will start first, with Lance Stroll taking charge in the afternoon.
For the rest:
Alpine – Esteban Ocon/Pierre Gasly
Williams – Alex Albon/Logan Sargent
RB – Hiroki Tsunoda/Daniel Ricciardo
Sauber Stakes – Valtteri Bottas/Zhou Guanyu
Haas – Kevin Magnussen/Nico Hulkenberg
