Actress Jin Seo-yeon reveals juice recipe to reduce morning swelling
Actress Jin So-yeon revealed her secret recipe for juice that reduces morning swelling. It's an unusual combination of tomatoes and coconut water, but she explained, “Both tomatoes and coconut water have the effect of flushing excess salt from the body. I carry this with me when I'm filming, and it helps reduce morning swelling considerably.”
Jin Seo-yeon recently appeared on KBS2's “Convenient Restaurant,” where she revealed her morning routine. She showed off the juice she drinks every morning, which is a mix of frozen tomatoes, coconut water, and honey. “This is the best way to get rid of morning bloating,” she said, describing the juice as the perfect summer drink, which she calls the “Tomato Coconut Smoothie.”
Tomatoes: High in water and antioxidants, perfect for hydrating in the morning
The smoothie shared by Jin So-yeon is simple yet effective in rehydrating, detoxifying, and reducing swelling. The main ingredient, tomatoes, are known to have a water content of about 95%. It is important to hydrate in the morning after 7-8 hours of sleep, when the body has less water. Proper hydration activates metabolism, smooths blood circulation, and reduces the risk of blood clots. In summer, body fluids are further reduced due to sweating while sleeping, so tomatoes are the perfect choice to replenish lost fluids and reduce swelling.
Tomatoes are rich in antioxidants such as lycopene, beta-carotene, and lutein, which are useful for preventing aging. Lycopene in particular is known to have antioxidant properties about twice as strong as beta-carotene and more than 100 times stronger than vitamin E. It prevents cell damage caused by active oxygen, slowing down aging and reducing the risk of various cancers and cardiovascular diseases. According to the Cleveland Clinic, lycopene can reduce the risk of heart disease by 14%. Cooking tomatoes increases the absorption of lycopene.
Coconut water: Rich in potassium, it helps flush out toxins and reduce swelling, while honey will give you a morning energy boost and improve blood circulation.
Known as a natural isotonic drink, coconut water is great for rehydrating and replenishing electrolytes. It contains potassium, sodium, and magnesium, which help maintain fluid balance in the body. Potassium, in particular, helps flush sodium and other waste products out of the body, reducing swelling.
For people who regularly consume foods high in salt, potassium intake is even more important. High sodium levels in the body can lead to water retention due to osmotic pressure, which can cause swelling. Potassium is essential for the normal functioning of the heart, muscles and nerves, and by promoting the excretion of sodium, it reduces swelling and lowers blood pressure.
Adding honey to your tomato and coconut water mix not only enhances the flavor but also gives you a quick energy boost in the morning. Made up of over 90% sugar, honey is quickly absorbed as an energy source. It helps to raise body temperature, improve blood circulation and reduce swelling. In addition, honey is rich in anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, boosting immunity and preventing cancer.
According to a study from the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, the antioxidants in honey can help reduce oxidative stress and chronic inflammation, helping to prevent cancer. However, honey is high in sugar, so it should be consumed in moderation. The American Heart Association recommends that men consume no more than 9 teaspoons of honey per day, and women and children no more than 6 teaspoons.
