Produced by Studio Dragon, the drama “Midnight Romance at School” tells the story of two teachers at a cram school after school. Seo Hye-jin (Jung Ryeo-won) was Lee Jun-ho's (Wi Ha-jun) mentor during his high school years and improved his grades significantly. Ten years later, they reunite as working adults and face new challenges together. Their relationship develops into a difficult yet sweet love story.
In an interview with Pinkvilla, Wi Ha-jun spoke about how he ended up taking on the lead role in this all-out romance drama. The actor clarified that he didn't refer to any particular work this time around. Instead, he watched more romance genre works than usual to train himself to maximize his romantic feelings. He chose a romance film because he had only played dark and heavy characters up until now, so he opted for a bright and warm role. He further added that many fans had been waiting to see him in a romance drama.
The actor also spoke about the traits he looks for in a partner, similar to Jung Ryeo Won's character Seo Hye Jin in the film. He believes everyone finds Seo Hye Jin attractive. She is decisive and does her best when it comes to work. But when it comes to love, she is clumsy, innocent and cute, which he finds attractive.
Wi Ha-joon highlighted the appeal of “Midnight Romance,” noting that viewers can look forward to the changing emotions between Hye-jin and Jun-ho, who were once master and disciple but are now colleagues. There are many scenes in the series where they clash over educational philosophies, and it will be fun to see whose perspective viewers sympathize with. Additionally, it will be interesting to see how Jun-ho, who was immature and selfish at first, grows and changes after reuniting with Hye-jin.
Wi Ha-jun shared his thoughts on working with director Ahn Pan-seok again. He said he feels the director is still incredibly talented and deserving of his fame. As the lead actor, Wi Ha-jun was able to spend more time with the director and understand and learn from his skills and attention to detail. The director's frequent praise also boosted Wi Ha-jun's confidence.
When asked about his school days and if he ever thought about becoming a Hagwon teacher, Wi Ha-jun said that he was a quiet and standout student. He balanced studying hard with performing on stage as part of a dance club, showing two very different sides of himself. He never thought about becoming an instructor because he didn't have the skills to teach.
