One woman shared the DIY hack she swears by to stop her itchy skin.
Commenting on the Reddit post, user Cowprint43 shared his secret trick for dealing with hives.
“I'm not a doctor, but I am someone who suffers from severe food allergies that manifest on the skin,” she explained.
“It itches so badly that I scratch it so hard while I sleep that it tears my skin.”
The poster suggested that her hack might be useful for anyone who is prone to insect bites during the summer.
She said the homemade recipe was “the only remedy” that worked to soothe her skin.
As a first step, she recommended mixing equal parts peppermint oil and lavender oil.
Then I added a pinch of sea salt and mixed until well combined.
Reddit users revealed that they apply the homemade solution to wet skin after a shower.
“The salt acts as a gentle scrub, so after your shower, all you have to do is rinse your skin and pat it dry,” she explained.
She credited the homemade mixture with providing instant relief to her itchy skin.
“The salt dries on the skin with a whitish color, but it feels like icy hot and doesn't itch on the skin for hours,” she said.
Medical experts from the Institute of Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery discussed the benefits of salt in soothing the skin.
They explained that the ingredient “provides numerous benefits to the epidermis.”
These include gentle exfoliation, acne treatment, improved circulation, rejuvenation, and anti-inflammatory properties.
