Google today released a new search spam update, called the June 2024 spam update. Google said that this spam update could take up to a week to complete.
This was just a regular spam update and Google would not say anything more about the update. Google later told us that this was not an algorithmic version of their enforcement of their site reputation abuse policy.
One week until deploymentWe've released the June 2024 spam update. It may take up to a week for the rollout to be complete.
Spam UpdatesGoogle provides a link to their standard spam update documentation:
Our automated search spam detection systems work all the time, but sometimes we make significant improvements to how they work. When we do, we do this by Spam Updates We then share that information in our updated list of Google search rankings.
For example, SpamBrain is our AI-based spam prevention system, and we regularly improve it to make it more accurate at detecting spam and ensure that we catch new types of spam.
Sites that see changes after the spam update should review their spam policies to ensure they are in compliance. Sites that violate the policies may be ranked lower in search results or may not appear in search results at all. Over the course of several months, our automated systems will learn that the site complies with the spam policies, which may allow them to make changes to improve their site.
For link spam updates (updates specifically focused on link spam), you may not see any improvement even after making changes because once our system removes the influence of spam links, it loses the ranking benefit that those links previously brought to your site – you cannot get back any potential ranking benefit that those links brought.
Previous spam update. The last spam update took place on March 5th, 2024, was named the “March 2024 Spam Update” and was completed on March 20th.

Why we care. This is the first Google search algorithm update since the major core and spam updates in March 2024. It’s unclear exactly what type of spam this update targets, but if you notice any changes in rankings in the next week, it may be related to this spam update.
