Returning with their first music of 2024, Heartworms have today unveiled “Jacked,” a propulsive and somewhat ominous new release that follows last year's solo single “May I Comply” and debut EP, “A Comforting Notion.”
Released again on South London's Speedy Wunderground and produced by the label's Dan Carey, “Jacked” offers the first glimpse of what to expect from Heartworms' next project, due later this year. Combining her trademark gothic drama with the pounding riffs and shimmering electronic sounds of '80s new wave, the track is accompanied by an enigmatic black and white music video.
“For me, 'Jacked' is the soundtrack to a paranoid fever dream,” says video director and creative collaborator Gilbert Trejo. “There's a movement and energy to this song that JoJo and I knew we needed to capture when writing the video. We wanted her to fly, but she had to be alone in the world, so we scratched everyone else's faces out of the film emulsion with a safety pin. That feeling of loneliness and the unknown. It's scary and hilarious.”
