DIY SOS presenter Nick Knowles has previously explained why he never cries “like everyone else” at the end of an emotional show.
The TV favourite has been a regular on TV for over 20 years thanks to his role on DIY SOS, and Nick is returning to TV on Wednesday (June 5) with his new travel show, Nick Knowles in South America.
As part of the DIY SOS team, Nick has been through many emotional moments on the show, but there's apparently a reason why he's never shed a tear on set.
Nick Knowles of DIY SOS
Nick has been the presenter of DIY SOS for nearly 25 years, since 1999. The popular BBC show sees Nick and a team of experts come to the rescue of families across the UK who are in need of major home improvements.
In a 2020 interview with The Guardian, Nick was asked what the last show that made him cry was, and he answered his own show, DIY SOS.
You will need to take frequent breaks to calm down.
He explained: “Once an episode is edited, I go into the studio to record the narration, but I often need to take a break to calm down.”
Nick Knowles 'cries off camera'
Nick then explained that it typically takes about 50 hours of filming to shoot one hour of footage for the show.
“Getting to know the people on the show and hearing their stories, the end result has been life-changing. The generosity of everyone involved is a reminder that people are good people. It's so moving.”
He went on to recall that he's often asked why he doesn't get emotional at the end of the show like the rest of his team.
Nick explained, “People always ask me why I don't cry at the end like everyone else. The truth is, I do cry off camera. I don't think that moment is about me.”
What else has Nick been in?
As well as DIY SOS, Nick is well known for hosting game shows such as Who Dares Wins and has also appeared on BBC's National Lottery game show Break the Safe and 5-Star Family Reunion.
In 2018, Nick took part in I'm A Celebrity… and now hosts his own travel show, Nick Knowles, set in South America on Channel 5.
Nick Knowles' South America broadcast will air on Channel 5 on Wednesday (5 June) at 7pm.
