A HANDY homeowner shared how he revamped his garden with a DIY paver patio.
Although the pair were proud of their hard work, people criticised their interior design sense and the “unusual” shape of the garden.
Reddit user GovSurveillanceBird has been sharing photos of his home renovations in a post that has become a hot topic.
They explained that they had negotiated with their wives and decided on the project.
“I wanted a deck and my wife wanted slate, so we compromised and went for the paver patio, which was the most difficult of the three,” they said.
The 400 square foot job took a month and a half.

“Mostly [the time] “A lot of time was spent piling up the soil and levelling and grading the base,” they explained.
“I'm glad we did it ourselves, but I don't think we'll do it again. It's not professional, but it looks good to us!”
Progress photos showed the couple's hard work, including leveling, surveying, and finishing the tiles.
Critics felt that while the DIY project turned out beautifully, the shape of the patio was a bit questionable.
“It looks good, but I have to say I'm not sure about the shape,” one commenter wrote.
The homeowners explained that they chose the unconventional interior design to defy convention.
“We love that the shape is so unique and not a boring square or rectangle,” they said.
“We wanted to do something different, not just a big rectangle with nothing cut into it. It looks a bit funny in pictures.”
They explained that they had sectioned off part of the patio for a fire pit, chairs and a place to wash their dog.
The shape also has additional advantages, the researchers added.
“[It] “It will open up a variety of landscaping opportunities,” they said.
They explained that while the unusual layout may not appeal to some, all that matters is that it's easy for them to use.
“[The] The resale value may be slightly lower, but if you are planning on owning the home for the long term, [I’d] “That's fine,” they said.
Some kind viewers suggested ways to show that the patio's shape was intentional.
“I would like to fill the cut-out areas with plants, shrubs or trees to make it look more intentional,” one commenter said.
“Otherwise you’ll wish you’d just made it a big rectangle.
“You can just wash your dog in the corner. There's no need for any protruding parts.”
