Google has been extremely unstable over the past few weeks, and was even more unstable this Saturday, June 1st. In fact, it was a very heated weekend, with many tools experiencing extreme instability and conversations within the SEO community at an unusually high level for a weekend.
I find it odd that Google doesn't talk much about volatility, but at the same time, they don't comment on all the volatility that we report. In fact, Google barely comments on the volatility of the Google updates that we report here.
Previous Recent Google Volatility
Below are some recent Google search ranking fluctuations we have reported on. The most recent fluctuations occurred over Memorial Day weekend, followed by fluctuations around May 22nd, May 16th, May 9th, May 3rd, and April 25th. Prior to that, the March 2024 Core Update began on March 5th and ended 45 days later on April 19th.
SEO Chatter
The SEO debate is raging here on WebmasterWorld and in the comments here. Here are some of those discussions:
All of my global site traffic sources look normal, with 129.8% on Friday and 158.8% after 18 hours today, a strong start to June.
There is little traffic today.
And then there was another day when Google traffic was barely measurable. Now it seems like every Saturday is like this.
Friday tracking is 20% higher, which is not the usual trend, but still no orders and very few enquiries…
Note that there have been some big moves in the past 24 hours, and Semrush Sensors has confirmed it.
I was excited and immediately checked the SERPs.
More spam. Forum + PDF upload spam. Traffic is awful, zero conversions today. And this crazy spike happened on June 1st, the last month of Q2.
It's the same. They're working three times harder at whatever they're doing. It's depressing.
That's true. The wild ride continues forever.
Parasitic spam is becoming more and more prevalent.
They are doing the exact opposite of what they said they would do.
The worst of the infested spam SERPs I always checked have finally moved, but in a direction that will lead to even more spam.
There is very little traffic, and even my Reddit “experiment” gets very little traffic.
Google Tracking Tools
As you can see, most of these tools are really hot and have shown big fluctuations in Google rankings over the past week.

Things have been really shaky over the past few weeks when it comes to Google search results.
What are you all looking at?
Just ran a quick visibility number on the 382 sites heavily impacted by HCU(X) in September… No, no change. Not that I was expecting anything yet, but wanted to check based on the latest volatility. If we see any movement there, it's probably in the next… https://t.co/k8ZBQPsGgS
