(MENAFN) Google's recent admission that 2,500 documents related to its search result ranking mechanisms were compromised has sparked frustration within the SEO community, according to business news media reports. The articles highlight that Google's approach to controlling the internet through its popular search engine has been kept secret for over 25 years.
Google confirmed the authenticity of the leaked documents but declined to say how much of the leaked data is currently integrated into its search system. There are discrepancies between the leaked information and statements made by Google representatives.
Amsive's VP of SEO Lily Ray described the situation as an escalation of an ongoing conflict between SEO professionals and Googlers. The news outlet also pointed to a compelling video from Eagle Digital CEO Irfan Azimi, in which Azimi suggested that details from the leak corroborated suspicions about Google's development of an internal system called “NavBoost,” which allegedly collects so-called “clickstream data” from users' search sessions and the links they click.
“We have been deceived for more than 10 years. The truth needs to come out,” Azimi said.
In response to the controversy, a Google spokesperson emphasized that the leaked documents lacked context and reiterated that Google's systems are frequently updated. The spokesperson declined to comment on specific aspects of the leaked data and warned against drawing inaccurate conclusions from out-of-context, out-of-date, or incomplete information. Google reaffirmed its commitment to transparency in publishing how its search engine works and promised to protect the integrity of its search results from tampering.
