Detroit blues rockers Eliza Neals has been singing for as long as she can remember, and was only 12 years old when she copyrighted the first song she sang.
“I was discovered by the late legendary Barrett Strong Jr. and signed to a label, but it didn't work out,” she says. “I started to get serious when I moved to New York, but the bills were getting expensive and I needed to make money and I didn't want to work a day job, so I started EH Records LLC,” Niels says. “I produced, arranged and wrote blues rock with Detroit roots, modern blues and a powerful live sound.”
Neals describes her sound as “Stevie Nicks meets John Lee Hooker, Aretha Franklin pouring Mick Jagger some hard liquor.” The Blues Brothers I'm uttering curse words that will chase you out of the kitchen.”
New album, Color CrimesIt will be on sale from May 24th.
“There are 27 people on this record from all over the world and all walks of life,” says Niels, “musicians coming together every day to celebrate their art and make music that we can all enjoy and that heals the soul.”
The Detroit artist says DIY means being your own team.
“It means doing it no matter what,” she says. “Know every part of the music business. You're your own lawyer, contract reader, makeup artist, fashion coordinator, lyricist, producer, arranger, keyboard player, publisher, record label, PR agent, bandleader, merch agent, and so much more.”
Neals has lots of plans for 2024.
“I have a lot of touring and writing coming up,” she says, “I've also booked a bunch of blues festivals, including my fifth with the legendary Buddy Guy's Legends, and I have some collaborations with some great artists coming up that I'll be announcing soon, as well as music festivals in France, Switzerland, Pennsylvania, Florida, and more.” For more information, visit elizaneals.com.
