A gardening expert has shared a DIY fertiliser recipe that will get your lavender blooming like never before this summer.
According to the Express, lavender will grow and flower quickly if given the right fertiliser, but this time there's no need to spend a fortune on harsh chemicals.
Gardener Teka Thompson of EHowGarden shares that it's super easy to make a three-ingredient fertilizer to help lavender plants grow and bloom faster.
To encourage lavender plants to flower and bloom profusely, it's best to fertilize them before summer sets in. Teka says: “Lavender is such a hardy and beautiful herb that it has grown quite wild in different parts of my garden.”
“It doesn't require a lot of maintenance, but I like to rejuvenate it once a year in the spring to give it a bit of life.”
All you need to make your own DIY fertiliser is plant compost, bone meal and lime, which you can buy from Amazon for just £8.99.
Mixing these ingredients together and adding them to your lavender soil will provide calcium to keep your plants healthy and phosphorus to promote flower production.
Teka continues: “Just mix equal parts compost, bone meal and lime in a small bucket. This will add plenty of the quality minerals and nutrients your plants need to thrive.”
Once mixed, add the fertilizer to your plant's soil and mix well to ensure the nutrients reach the roots. It also aerates the soil, which helps keep it from compacting and allows water and oxygen to reach the roots more efficiently.

It's also important to make sure you water your lavender after fertilizing to ensure maximum growth and flowering.
The expert said: “The reason for watering lightly is to allow it to penetrate the roots so that the nutrients and fertiliser can start working their magic. Watering thoroughly afterwards will see the plant bounce back and thrive.”
