Converse has teamed up with Rit Dye to sell DIY project kits that allow customers to add their own colorful flair to their Chucks.
Created in collaboration with a fabric dyeing company, the all-in-one kit contains primary dyes in hues of lemon yellow, cherry red and aquamarine. The kit also includes gloves, a squeeze bottle, a foam brush, masking tape and stickers to protect Converse's iconic soles and ankle patches from the dye.
As Converse points out, the popular canvas sneaker has long served as a medium for individuals to show off their creativity and individuality. Social media has only accelerated this, with a recent trend seeing Converse fans dyeing their shoes different colors at home. Converse has decided to make this process easier by offering customers make-your-own dyeing kits.
Converse's new DIY initiative aligns with the brand's “commitment to championing and encouraging creative self-expression by fostering individuality and giving customers the tools and choices to customize their shoes.”
The dye kit retails for $25 and can be purchased online at converse.com. Kits are sold separately from shoes. Converse recommends Optical White All Stars for best results.
In addition to the dye kits, customers can design their own sneakers through Converse By You customization, choosing the Chuck embroidery, patches and laces.
The announcement of the Rit Dye collaboration comes on the heels of Converse cutting staff as part of a company restructuring.
Converse has been a staple of modern fashion for over 100 years, since the first model was released in 1909. The affordable sneakers are loved by people of all ages and social groups, with everyone from your average suburban high school kid to professional athletes and celebrities wearing Converse for a casual, yet fashionable look.
