Google is testing special treatment for Reddit snippets in Google search results. Google is adding upvote and comment counts in different styles to give searchers more information about Reddit threads.
What is it like? Both Shubham Khatwani and Brodie Clark sent us screenshots of it in action. Some of these screenshots are shown below.
Why is it treated specially? It's unclear why these search results from Reddit are receiving special treatment. We know that Google signed a content deal with Reddit a few months ago to give it deeper access to Reddit's content. Perhaps Google is using this additional data to enhance Reddit's search results.
Of course, we also know that Reddit currently ranks very highly on all things Google search. So it's not like Reddit needs any special treatment.
Why we care. This is just another change that could help Reddit drive more traffic from Google Search. Of course, this is also a useful and relevant feature for searchers to see in Google search results. But special user interface changes in Google search results give an advantage to sites that receive such treatment, likely leading to higher click-through rates.
