New analysis shows SEO-related job postings are down 37% year over year, with mid-level positions being the most affected.
There was also a “resurrection” of remote SEO roles in Q1. However, a report from SEOJobs.com found that only 18% of SEO job postings offered a salary (or salary range).
Why we care. Just two years ago, we were in a period known as the Great Resignation (aka the Great Turnaround), where job listings were plentiful and recruiting was a big challenge for companies. Fast forward to 2024 and things have changed, with many of the newly unemployed talent in our industry finding it difficult to get hired.
Speaking of numbers. A breakdown of the open positions by seniority is as follows:
- The number of senior-level listings increased by 3%.
- Intern/entry level listings increased by 1%.
- Mid-level listings were down 6%.
what they are saying. Careers in the SEO field may not feel as stable right now as they have in years past, but that doesn't mean SEO is dead, it's just that it's evolving, says report author Nick LeRoy said.
- “Companies want to ‘do more with less.’ This means hiring cheaper junior talent and paying for proven experience and results through senior SEO. …I think the SEO industry will become even more chaotic before it gets better. But we need to know how to build a strategy, execute it, and measure the results effectively. There are always SEO jobs available.
