Swytch, the maker of the self-proclaimed “most affordable” electric bike conversion kit, announced its latest model this morning. The UK-based company's new His Swytch GO kit comes at an ultra-low pre-order price of just £299 (US$349 for North American customers), but there's a bit of a catch.
The problem is, if you don't mind joining the waiting list, that's the pre-order price. Or you can pony up his double of that amount for an immediate purchase.
Swytch has seen a surge in demand in the past when releasing previous versions, so this could be a way to smooth out the production curve and ease any immediate demand that may arise when a new model is launched.
One of the reasons Swytch has been so popular in past releases is its very affordable entry price, but its sleek design and ease of installation certainly don't hurt sales either. According to the company, more than 85,000 Swytch kits have already been sold, and DIY modifications to electric bikes seem to remain popular.
Oliver Montague, CEO of Swytch, commented:
“These are exciting times for Swytch. Consumers are demanding more affordable and sustainable transportation options, and the Swytch GO Kit is the ideal solution. Installation has also never been easier, making it accessible to anyone. Now you can enjoy the benefits of electric bikes.”
In the new Swytch GO kit announced this morning, the 250W front motor is unchanged from the previous version of the kit, but a new Velcro-mounted GO battery has been added to provide more mounting options.
The previous Air battery, which is still available as an alternative option to the GO battery, was mounted directly to the handlebar. GO Batteries now allow riders to mount the battery inside the front triangle. With more mountain options, the kit can be easily installed on different styles of bikes.
Additionally, GO batteries come in three versions: GO, GO+, and GO++, offering a pedal-assisted range of 15 to 60 miles (25 to 100 km). While the Air battery was famous for being small enough to be carried in a rider's pocket, the GO battery is still so small that it can easily be shoved into a bag to avoid leaving it on the bike in areas where theft is common. can do.
GO batteries are fairly light and easy to handle, weighing between 2 and 2.6 kg (4.5 and 5.7 lb) depending on the model. It's also IPX6 rated for all-weather driving and UL listed for safety.
With just 250W of power from the front hub motor, the Swytch GO kit is designed for cycling-ready commuters who are already accustomed to pedal assist. However, riders who love the throttle will be happy to know that an optional hand-held throttle is offered as an accessory. Can be added to your kit (where permitted by law) to provide power-on-demand throttle riding without the need to pedal.
As the company's CTO Dmytro Kroma explains: This is all part of his Swytch effort to continually update the technology and practicality of its kits.
“Our company's mission is to make electric bikes available to everyone. So, in response to the pressures of the consumer economy, we are making no sacrifices in battery quality, performance, or safety. We wanted to bring the entry-level price down to just £299 for customers to pre-order the Swytch kit, including the battery's water, shock and impact resistance. Thoroughly tested to the highest standards to ensure safe use and charging at home.
By redesigning the battery pack with a larger form factor, incorporating the power electronics inside the pack along with the battery, and designing a very simple mounting solution that allows the battery pack to be secured anywhere on the bike using Velcro straps, we have reduced the price was able to be significantly lowered. And, as an added bonus, we now have e-bike kits that are even easier and faster to install and extend your range up to 60 miles. ”
