RICHMOND, Va., May 16, 2024 (Globe Newswire) — Virginia Credit Union has awarded a $5,000 grant that will be used to expand financial education resources at the Richmond Public Library East End Branch (25th Street). Obtained.
VACU Senior Financial Success Educator Tori Firas collaborates with library staff to develop relatable, multicultural books that teach important personal finance concepts at an appropriate level to students at the pre-K through 6th grade level. I have created a collection of 80 books.
These books are collected and organized in a dedicated specialist kiosk at our East End branch. This is his fourth such kiosk that VACU has created in partnership with the Richmond Public Library System. Existing kiosks are located in the library's West End (Patterson Avenue), Broad Rock (Old Warwick Road), and Main Building (Franklin Street).
“People are always shocked to learn that our spending and saving habits are set by the age of seven,” Firas says. “Financial education is critical to equipping young people with the skills and knowledge they need to make informed financial decisions.
