Perhaps spring will get you thinking about a rainbow of fresh new colors.
If you're working from home, you might be tired of staring at the same old colored walls. Or maybe you're thinking of selling and want to make the interior look better. In any case, something made you think about painting your house. As an independent painter with nearly 30 years of professional experience in this industry, Barry Wyatt gives you his one suggestion. That is, don't draw the picture yourself.
Few homeowners feel they have the necessary skills to tackle DIY electrical and plumbing projects. But many of those same people who have never picked up a paint brush suddenly feel entitled to paint their entire house from floor to ceiling. The truth is that painting is a skilled profession. Officially, “Painter and Decorator” is the official Red Seal occupational title for this profession, approved by the CCDA. This standard covers tasks performed by painters and decorators. What this shows is that a skilled painter is someone who has a calling and a level of professionalism that you can't get by simply wearing painter's pants and opening a can of eggshell whites.
“The company was founded in 1997 by my father and I and we have been professional painters ever since,” Wyatt said. He took over BW Painting as a sole proprietorship upon the retirement of his father, Barney Wyatt. “I don't hire people to do the work. I do the work myself.”
It's a thing of beauty to watch a professional painter cut edges along a wall or ceiling, and it's a skill that separates the pros from the eager but misguided DIY homeowner. While most of his calls come from people who understand the value of hiring a skilled tradesman, Wyatt also receives calls from people hoping to save people who have failed in painting their homes themselves. I often receive phone calls.
“A good friend of mine called me recently and asked if I was busy right now,” said Wyatt, whose primary service area is the Hamilton/Burlington/Oakville corridor. “The friend and her mother had decided to try painting the house. They only got a few strokes of paint before they realized they had applied too much.”
Avoiding self-inflicted disasters is one of the main reasons to hire a professional painter. Wyatt prides himself on customer service and is always quick to call customers back to determine their needs. We are working on-site to avoid inconvenience to our customers.
“We brought all the drop sheets we needed to do the job in a clean way,” Wyatt said. “Everything is done in a professional manner.”
Rather than buying paint from a jack-of-all-trades at the paint counter at a big box store, Wyatt can help you decide on the best paint for the job. He works with his two local paint suppliers of choice (Painter's Place Benjamin Moore and Burlington Paint in Fairview) to ensure he gets the best quality paint for the job.

“You have to look at things. You have to look at what colors are on the walls. Perhaps the walls need to be primed first, or there may be a lot of holes that need to be fixed. Yes, it is difficult to give an estimate over the phone.
