Liverpool have been dealt a blow after Tottenham Hotspur made a bid for Real Sociedad star Takefusa Kubo, according to reports in Spain.
The 22-year-old has shone for Real Sociedad since joining the club from Spanish giants Real Madrid in 2022, emerging as one of La Liga's young attackers.
Will Kubo go to the Premier League?
Kubo did not play a single first-team game for Real Madrid as he spent four loan spells elsewhere before signing a permanent contract with Real Sociedad for the 2022/23 season.
In hindsight, Real Madrid may regret letting Kubo leave, as he was a fantastic signing for their La Liga rivals. He has played in 39 games this season, scoring seven goals and providing four assists.
His performances with Real Sociedad and Japan have sparked talk of him being linked with a move to the Premier League in recent months.
Kubo has been mentioned as a candidate to replace Liverpool's Mohamed Salah amid reports that the Egyptian national team player is linked with a move to the Saudi Professional League. Last month, it was claimed that the Reds were preparing to submit an offer for the Japan international.
But reports in Spain say they have been thoroughly beaten. spursthey have “set their sights on” Kubo and are “determined” to sign him for next season.

Tottenham are said to have “made an attractive offer of 50 million euros (approximately 4.3 billion yen) to Real Sociedad for the skilled midfielder”. The player has been given a release clause of 60 million euros, but they are willing to negotiate for a lower amount.
“Tottenham's offer represents a challenge for Real Sociedad, who face the possibility of losing one of the key pieces of their game scheme.
“The Basque club retains Kubo until 2029, but an attractive offer from Spurs could influence the board's final decision.
“The potential for significant financial benefits, together with the opportunity to strengthen other areas of the team, may mean that Real seriously consider offers from English clubs.”

TBR are told that Tottenham, Liverpool, Manchester United and Newcastle are keeping an eye on Wharton's progress.
“Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Juventus remain interested in Wharton and checked him out ahead of his move to Selhurst Park.”
