Two people were killed Monday night when they were hit by a commuter rail train in Natick, Massachusetts, and the accident caused long delays for MBTA commuters.
Authorities are releasing limited information at this time, but the Traffic Police Department said: Richard Sullivan confirmed the victims were pronounced dead at the scene from their injuries.
Aerial footage showed a bicycle lying on the side of the tracks and workers at the scene littering the ground with evidence markers.
Transit police detectives and the Middlesex County District Attorney's Office responded and are investigating what happened.
After 6 p.m. MBTA announced Social media has posted several updates regarding Framingham/Worcester Line trains, including cancellations and delays in both directions due to police activity on the right side of traffic in Natick.
The MBTA announced around 8:30 p.m. that both lines had begun service on the Framingham/Worcester line, but passengers were told they would continue to experience delays in both directions.
The ages of the victims have not been released at this time, and authorities have not confirmed whether one or both of them were riding the bikes at the time of the fatal crash.
The investigation is currently ongoing.
