Waverly, Pre-K to 12-Year-Old Progressiveth The Pasadena elementary school held its 30th anniversary celebration on May 4th. This milestone event was a jubilant occasion filled with student performances, community, and reflection on his 30 years of progressive education in downtown Pasadena.
Founded in 1994, Waverly fosters inquisitive and resourceful individuals who demonstrate intellectual engagement, critical and creative thinking, respect for individual differences, a strong sense of personal responsibility, and an active commitment to social justice. We have consistently supported our mission to develop successful and confident learners. Over the past 30 years, a rich childhood has evolved from kindergarten to her 12th year.th A grade level community dedicated to developing the potential of every student.
Co-chaired by current parents Erica Gragg Dobkin, Scottie Goldbeck, and Wendy Ha, many highlights of the party included performances by the high school bluegrass band, elementary school rock band, and solo The performance included Waverly's “time capsule”. The day concluded with current principal Clark Weatherspoon, former principal and alumni parent Heidi Johnson, board member and alumni parent Nadine Tanio, and former high school teacher Greg Harrison. It was a panel discussion about the importance of progressive education and the history of Waverly. He is also a guardian of alumni and a former board member.
There was also an opportunity for graduates to reunite with friends and teachers, entertainment, games, activities for juniors, and a surprise cake made by Gina Malhalla Mohammad, wife of high school math teacher Jack Knight. The first major event in about 20 years.
“This anniversary was a celebration of Waverley's joyful past, exciting future and the opportunities that exist at this moment in time,” said school principal Clark Weatherspoon. “This is a time to acknowledge the contributions of all community members and the efforts that have moved Waverly forward as a school focused on social justice and progressive education. Every day spent at Waverly is filled with the dedication of our teachers and students. Waverly continues to recognize the importance of being a small school, characterized by positive and meaningful relationships between students, and focused on the learning process, not just the results. , I am proud to lead us into the next 30 years of growth and learning.”
